The Callaway County Sheriff's Department arrested Travis M. Schroer, 29, Fulton, Wednesday night after he eluded a manhunt Tuesday evening and Wednesday in Callaway County.
A Callaway County Sheriff's Department manhunt, aided by a Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter and search dogs, was conducted Tuesday evening in an area around Route NN between Fulton and Dixie in Callaway County.
The search concluded at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when Schroer was taken into custody after the sheriff's office obtained a search warrant for 14 Callaway Drive in Fulton.
According to a press release, "with the assistance of the Fulton Police Department SRU Unit the search warrant was executed and Schroer was taken into custody without incident."
The chase began at about 5 p.m. Tuesday when a Callaway County deputy attempted to stop a car driven by Schroer along Route NN south of Fulton.
Schroer was wanted on a parole violation of a prison conviction, according to Bob Smith, an investigator for the Callaway County Sheriff's Department. "The parole violation was a no-bond pickup order," Smith said. That means Schroer would go directly back to the state prison to complete his previous sentence because state parole officers reported he violated conditions of his release from prison.
"There also was a Callaway County warrant for Schroer's arrest on a failure to appear in court charge," Smith said.
Smith said Wednesday afternoon Schroer probably is still in Callaway County and is likely to be receiving help from friends. "He has friends and associates who help him on a regular basis when we are looking for him. That's been a common problem we have had when we have looked for him in the past. We have been following up on some leads but so far with no success," Smith said.
Smith said during the pursuit by the deputy down County Road NN, Schroer turned off on county roads, creating a lot of dust to obscure the pursuit. Schroer led deputies along County Road 414. He then got back on Route NN and eventually ditched his car on Pitcher Road, which is a dead end private road off of Route NN.
A resident who lives just off Route NN called to report that Schroer was at his back door. "But Schroer fled into the woods before we arrived. A search of that wooded area with the aid of a Highway Patrol helicopter was conducted without success. Later we received calls from the area around County Road 432 and Route BB. A resident there told us that Schroer was at his mother's house in the County Road 429 area. When the resident confronted him, Schroer ran into the woods. The patrol helicopter also was brought back to help search this area as well but unfortunately we could not locate him," Smith said.
The manhunt was halted after sundown when Schroer could not be found.
Schroer was convicted earlier of felony burglary and felony property damage charges and has a record of arrests covering a 10-year period.
On April 10, 2007, Schroer was arrested by Callaway County deputies on a felony burglary charge. On May 28, 2008, Schroer pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to five years in the state prison. But he later was released on parole.
Schroer was accused of felony property damage on Nov. 28, 2007. He pleaded guilty to the charge on May 19, 2008, and was sentenced to three years in state prison and later was released on parole. He also pleaded guilty to a Nov. 28, 2007, charge of driving while intoxicated and was sentenced to 15 days in Callaway County Jail.
