Parole violator escapes from Callaway manhunt

A manhunt with helicopters and canines Tuesday evening failed to track down a man Callaway County authorities were seeking on probation violations after a short pursuit earlier in the evening.

A Callaway County sheriff's deputy attempted to pull over Travis Schroer around 5 p.m. Tuesday along Route NN, south of Fulton, on a probation and parole violation, investigator Bob Smith said. A 10- to 15-minute pursuit ensued until Schroer pulled into a driveway and fled into nearby woods on foot.

A search was conducted in the vicinity of county roads 422 and 429 as residents called in to report seeing a man running through area fields. Highway Patrol helicopter and canine units were used in the search. The search ended about 7:30 p.m.
