Shyrock, incumbents elected to NoCal school board

The North Callaway Board of Education members will welcome one new face to their table after Tuesday's election - Mike Shryock.

Incumbents Sandy Lavy and Regan Love were re-elected to the board, and Shryock will fill the seat left open when Board Member Chris Gilman chose not to refile. Shryock received the most votes at 367, which is 29.96 percent. Love was a close second at 362 or 29.55 percent. Lavy received 321 votes or 26.2 percent. Hadley E. Linnenbringer was defeated at 173 votes or 14.12 percent.

Lavy, who is currently serving as board secretary, said she wasn't sure who was going to come out on top in the election.

"You just never know," Lavy said, but added, "I think any of the choices on (the ballot) would have been fine."

She said Tuesday night that she wanted to congratulate the other two candidates who won seats, and now it's time to get "back to business."

"I think our first order of business is to figure out how we're going to handle the cuts ... to do whatever we can to keep our current staff in place," Lavy said.

Both Lavy and Love will be starting their second, three-year term on the school board.

Love said he hopes to continue serving as he did his first term - by listening to the patrons and trying to work for the good of the students.

"I'm just trying to do what I can to help the district all I can ... and make sure the students get as much as we can give them," Love said.

Love said he is looking forward to serving with Shryock on the board.

"He'll be a good fellow," he said.

Shryock was unavailable for comment Tuesday.
