Baumgartner, Walker win contested Auxvasse seats

Not having any opposition in Tuesday's election, Kevin Phares will once again serve the two-year mayor term. Other familiar faces will return to serve the City of Auxvasse as well.

North Ward Alderman Michael Bickel, also having no opponent, was elected for a two-year term after originally being appointed to the position in April 2010. South Ward Alderman Terry Walker will also keep his post after winning the election against Bret Barnes. George "Trey" Baumgartner won the open South Ward alderman seat with 54 votes, or 79.41 percent. He will serve a one-year, unexpired term. Baumgartner defeated Trenton Lee Bohrn who received 14 votes, or 20.59 percent.

Walker received 38 votes, or 61.29 percent to beat Barnes at 24 votes, or 38.71 percent.

Baumgartner, who admitted he was surprised by his win Tuesday, said he was ready to join the Board of Alderman.

"I'm eager to get started," he said. "I'm just happy that the City of Auxvasse voted me in, and I'm looking forward to getting involved in all the issues."

Walker said he was pleased to have Baumgartner serve on the board.

"I think he'll do a good job," he said.

Walker added that there were two important upcoming issues he hopes to help the city with now that he will be serving another two-year term.

"Right now I'm just looking forward to progressing with the Dollar General store and finding funding for the new well system," he said.
