North Callaway is looking into costs for providing additional parking near its baseball field in Auxvasse.
During the North Callaway School Board meeting Thursday night, a map was shown to members, outlining where the parking spaces would be constructed. The new lot, which would be paid for out of the district’s bond funds, would be built over a previous ditch that has been covered. Superintendent Bryan Thomsen said additional spaces should alleviate some traffic congestion after games.
Board members also decided to begin obtaining bids from companies for new lighting in the district’s gymnasiums. Thomsen said rebates from Ameren would be used to change out the current lighting for new bulbs that would be more energy-efficient, would last longer, be brighter and would save money in the long run. He said the new lighting would be a “very wise investment.” The district would begin by changing out lighting in the gyms, Thomsen said, but may eventually change out bulbs throughout the rest of the schools.
The superintendent reported North Callaway had been listed among Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s districts that had attained “Distinction in Performance.”
“We’re very proud of our staff for the hard work and dedication it takes to be on that list,” Thomsen said.
Although county and state revenue was up from June budget projections, federal revenue was down, Thomsen reported, so the district’s budget was revised from approximately $4,575,500 to almost $4,464,600.
Members also changed the date of the March 17 board meeting to March 24 due to the 17th falling during Spring Break.
