Speed limit enforcement topic of concern in HS
By ROSA RUIZ
Jefferson City News Tribune

HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo. - Reducing speed limits in Holts Summit subdivisions because the police department is short-handed continues to be an issue here.

The lowering of speed limits in most of Holts Summit's subdivisions was a major concern at Monday night's Board of Aldermen meeting.

The reduction from 30 mph to 25 mph at the Antweiler Subdivision was brought up at the Aug. 11 meeting after the Lake Park Village Subdivision's speed limit was reduced.

Former alderwoman MaryAnn Durham, who lives in the Antweiler Subdivision, previously stressed that lowering speed limits should apply to all subdivisions and not just one in order to maintain safety.

When the discussion on the speed reduction in her neighborhood was brought up, she described it as “ridiculous” because she believes people will not obey the speed limit.

As a solution, she proposes that adding stop signs will have a more positive effect on the neighborhood.

No decision was made.
