Changes light the way for ‘07 Christmas parade

The 2007 Fulton Jaycees Christmas Parade will be a whole lot brighter if organizers get their wish.

A few changes have been made for this year's event - including a shift in the start time, the addition of lighted floats and a special Christmas tree dedication by Santa.

The parade will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, with a “Magical Christmas Winter Wonderland” theme.

Line-up will start at 11:30 a.m. at the entrance of the Fulton State Hospital, and deadline for entry is Nov. 30.

“We're really excited about the changes,” said Jaycee member Rob Bristow, co-chairman of the parade. “We moved the start time so people will have more lit-type floats, and so it can tie in with other evening activities being planned.

“Adding lights will make it prettier and more Christmasy.”

Downtown merchants also are being asked to turn their white lights on during the parade.

Illuminating floats is only one of the changes. Holiday music, food vendors and carriage rides have also been added to go along with the traditional Victorian Christmas Tour, scheduled from 5-8:30 p.m.

“We're hoping to give the parade a different feel and look,” Bristow said. “We're anticipating a pretty big crowd.”

At the close of the evening, attention will be drawn to the corner of Fifth and Court streets - in the little pocket park - for a Christmas tree dedication by The Callaway Bank.

The dedication is part of the bank's 150th anniversary celebration. Santa and members of the CB staff will turn the lights on around 5 p.m.

“The 150th anniversary is something we want to share with our community,” said Debbie LaRue, director of marketing and public relations, at The Callaway Bank. “Donating the tree seemed to be a fitting grand finale, and something the community can enjoy throughout the holiday season.

“We really hope the people will participate and enjoy everything from the parade to all the fun in downtown Fulton.”

Entry forms and a list of the parade restrictions can be obtained at the Chamber. For more information call (573) 642-3055.
