Collins receives Westminster's Boyd Memorial Award
By RYAN BOLAND The Fulton Sun
Westminster College senior Chris Collins has been awarded the 2005-06 “Junior” Boyd Memorial Award, presented annually to a senior multi-sport student-athlete.
Collins, from Arnold, is a member of the football and baseball teams, and has graduated with a degree in business administration, with a concentration in marketing.
He played tight end and fullback in football, rushing for a score while also catching a touchdown pass, but was noted more for his blocking.
In baseball, Collins is the Blue Jays' starting catcher and earned first-team all-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors as a junior. He is batting .294 this season with nine doubles and 22 runs batted in.
Westminster (18-20) - the fourth seed - faces No. 1 Greenville (Ill.) College at 3 this afternoon in the first round of the SLIAC Tournament at Gordon Moore Park in Alton, Ill.
The memorial award was established in 1999 to honor the memory of Boyd, who lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track in each of his four years at Westminster. He is the only 16-letter winner in school history.
